The Welsh Athletics Indoor Junior Championships 2018 - Menai Team of 10 athletes bring home a haul of 9 Medals back to North West Wales

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Having collated 7 medals on day 1 of the Junior Welsh Championships in Cardiff with fantastic performances by all, the 10-man strong team saw the shower of medals continuing into day 2 with brilliant performances by all athletes involved. Zack Price was the golden boy as he led the way with two Gold medals to his name. Zack dominated the 60m on day 1 of the Championship with 1st place and an impressive PB to his name, and as he coasted through both his 200m heat and semi-final on day 2 before inevitably reaching a tough field of athletes in the final. Nevertheless, yet again Zack didn’t fail to impress as he brought home yet another gold medal in an outstanding final showing on the track with yet another pb to his name. Chloe Griffith, also determined to add to her 300m silver medal achieved on day 1, ended day 2 with a well-deserved silver medal in the 200m. Gethin Owen accomplished what he had set out to do by attaining a massive indoor PB in his first u20s 200m. Together with the medals and pbs attained by Guto Tegid, Cai Roberts, Elis Jones and (Tudur Harper-Lloyd, Joseff & Harry Morgan coached by Steve Livett) on the first day of the Championship, this brings the Menai Team’s final medal count to an astonishing 9. A massive well done to all who made the journey and competed this weekend. All athletes would also like to show extraordinary gratitude to both Barry Edwards and Alwyn Roberts who have not only dedicated their weekend to travel to Cardiff with the athletes, but also encourage and train the athletes tirelessly throughout the year; a massive thank you on behalf of all of us. The team now remains optimistic of an even better performance in this year’s summer championships and next year’s Indoor Championships!

Report by Guto Tegid.

Barry Edwards Senior Sprints coach added, “it is great to see the North Walian’s travelling down South again and bringing back medals and pbs galore, the work ethic, commitment and drive that our athletes have is unbelievable and all the athletes are a credit to the club and fully deserve their success at the 2018 National Indoor Championships. A real pleasure to work with such talented and committed athletes.”
